And we have our first playhouse injury

They were in the playhouse for literally 15 seconds and she injured herself...of course it was somehow Andrew's fault.

I guess we will wait until it is done before going back in.

A smart purchase

In Hilton head, there are signs posted in a lot of spots that say, "no crabbing". This means, no "fishing for crabs here - move your crabbing to another spot". (I totally made that up, I am just making an inference. Inference is a big word - betcha didn't know this blog is at college reading level :). Hence the use of "betcha" and a smiley face.)

Anyways, at the South Beach "commercial center" there are a number of boutiques that have not changed in 10 years. One sells $10 ketchup.  Another few sell the same tshirts.  And one sells custom made signs. So I ordered this baby....

It looks awesome with my pickled knotty pine cabinets. Oh so chic.

The idea is that any time any one is crabbing (whining, asking the same question over and over again, crying, hitting, being rude or pretty much anything I deem as "crabbing.") he/she has to move to a "crabbing" zone.  Like South Carolina.

The sign purchaser (ie. ME) just has to go to her room and take a rest or have a drink - depending on the time of day.

Thank you to Katie for scoping this out!

PS - As I sit here typing this, I have horrible back pain and the beginning of mastitis (fever, chills, all over body pain, etc), and I just finished booking my 2nd round of PT for my SI joint pain.  So I am posting this quickly, over the post that went up earlier today saying this is all easier than I thought....because right now it isn't.  If I wasn't a train wreck, it would be.

PPS - It is driving me crazy to sit here (amidst chaos) and do nothing, so I am working on the blog.

Highs and Lows

Since Mae joined our family 2 months ago, we have been having a blast.  This whole 3 kids thing is much easier than I thought it would be....however, I know saying that will come back to bite me.   And perhaps that is because I had EXTREMELY low expectations.  Also, I know this is the easy time, when I can put the baby down and she stays where I put her.  And she doesn't talk!

Highs
1. Mae's cute little face and chunky thighs.
2.  The kids have been great.  They love Mae and she really responds to them.  Seeing how much they love each other, that has definitely been the highlight of the past 2 months.
3. Andrew is the protective big brother, he calls Mae "My Mae."  How cute is that?
4. Grace is almost exactly 5 years older than Mae.  Seeing how much she has grown and changed is just amazing.  She is starting to read!  She can take care of herself in many ways, which is so helpful.  And she helps with her little siblings.  She watches out for Andrew and could not be sweeter to Mae.

Lows
1. Sometimes Mae likes to hang out and cry, grunt, and in general act uncomfortable in the middle of the night.  For a few hours.  Sometimes it makes me want to cry too.
2. Mae wants to be held all the time and cries if I put her down.  So I need to tune out a bit of baby crying or else I won't get a thing done, for someone that HATES noise, this is a challenge.
2. Mae won't take a pacifier.  What kind of baby doesn't take a paci???  Sometimes I feel like her life would be much easier if she would just suck on the darn thing.
3. Mae pooped on my face.  Seriously.
4. Mae peed on her face.  Seriously.
5. I found myself making hamburger patties and watching kids and grilling about 6 hours after I got home from the hospital.  Seriously.

And I won't really count these as lows, but I have been taking some shortcuts in the parenting department - it is a survival technique.
1. Andrew gets bribed with skittles, for pretty much anything.
2. If one of the kids is acting up or doing something naughty and I am too tired to discipline, I have just let them get away with it for a while.  Well we have been doing a major behavior crack down over here.  Lots of time outs and taking away priviledges.  Hopefully, they won't be juvenile delinquents.
3.  Mae gets like 1 or maybe 2 baths a week.  But thats it.  She doesn't spit up often and is not that dirty.  At least that is what I tell myself.
4. I use tv and iDevices as babysitters.  It really doesn't amount to that much time, 15 minutes here and there, but still not ideal.  And Andrew is becoming addicted to the iPad.  And so have I (awesome to pass the time when Mae is eating), so sometimes we get into little altercations over the iPad.  He usually wins.

Hilton Head: Andrew Quotes

Andrew loves Beyonce's "all the single ladies" song. We have started to refer to little girls as single ladies, and we ask Andrew questions such as, "Did you play with any single ladies at daycare?"or "Meet any single ladies at the gym?"  He usually replies, "Yes. Just one single lady."

At the pool, he asked Kevin to take him to another side of the pool.
"Where do you want to go?"
"Over there. By those single ladies!"
Such a ladies man.

Andrew was scared of the salty dog mascot. Grace got her picture
taken with him, but Andrew was way too wimpy. However, when the dog walked by Andrew
the following conversation occurred...
"I yove him." Andrew whispered.
"What did you say?" Kevin asked.
"I yove that black guy!"

There were 12 apple devices for 11 people. The kids had their pick of iPads to entertain themselves. One day Andrew had grabbed an iPad and was watching "Toy Story".
"Andrew, I need that iPad to see what the weather says.". Kevin
With a firm grip on the iPad, he replied,"The weather says we watch "Toy Story" now."

And here is one from Grace....there were a lot of dolphin sightings throughout the week.  However, the kids were not interested or could not see the dolphins.  Towards the end of the trip, when Kevin was on the beach with Grace he said, "Look Gracie!  There is another dolphin out there swimming!"
Grace replied, "I do not care."  (Sounds like her Mom.)

Recently 3

This is all from May - I just forgot to post it!

The kids have been playing with Barbies.  Not sure what this is all about.  Not sure I want to know.

Grace still loves holding Mae.

Mae's diaper. Andrew's diaper.  I change a lot of diapers.

When Mae is fussy, she loves to be outside.

Andrew helping himself to yogurt, while pulling down his pants and holding a pair of dump truck underware.

Mae loves tummy time.

I made sliders one night.  Aren't they cute?  Of course the kids wouldn't eat them.

Poor Andrew got sick.  He never gets sick.  He was throwing up and limping.  I was alarmed, what a weird combination of symptoms.  When we took the little guy in, he was so tough even though I could see he was in pain when the doctor was messing with his legs.  The doctor thought it was a virus.  Then we all got sick.  All of us having the stomach flu (except Mae) is about as much fun as it sounds.  Oh well.  We survived!

Sleeping Beauty

School Work

Every day that Andrew goes to daycare, he comes home with a little sheet recording all of his daily accomplishments.  Such as who he played with, how many times he crapped his pants, and what he ate - I think his teachers LIE on this - the kid won't eat anything at home but he eats carrots at daycare...what? Although the kid naps at daycare and does not at home - so who knows?

He also comes home with projects.  This is supposed to be a dog.

I am thinking perhaps he had some help with this turtle...

And here we have a sampling of some of Grace's latest work.  She comes home with stacks every day.  And each of them has a sticker on it.  The kindergarten at her school is single-handedly keeping the sticker industry in business.

I love that she now draws real pictures.  The kind I remember drawing, with the sun in the corner, a blue line for the sky, etc.  So cute!

In case you can't see the comment or decipher the drawing, if Gracie were a farmer she would give a cow a bath.  Love that she chose cleaning something for her farmer duty!

Gracie's class has a letter of the week each week.  They make a little letter book and bring it home each Friday.  Each Friday I look at it and throw it away.  Apparently, I was supposed to be saving them all year and then create an alphabet book.  Whoops.

My thoughts exactly...

except i don't say it this nicely.  Yikes.
