Special Spot

A few months ago, Andrew brought home this cute little card for Kevin.  That is batman on the front, you can tell by the "long ears" coming out of the top of his head.  It is super cute and Kevin wanted to save it.  Who wouldn't?

So it sat in our bedroom. And sat. And sat. Whenever I would ask him to do something with it, he would say, "Ok" and move it to another surface in the room. Dresser to dresser to nightstand to dresser to dresser...you get the idea.

Well one day I had seen enough of this yellow card, so I said, "If you do not do something with this @#&$^*#@*#&^$^#  card, I am going to %^#*@(#)%*@&!^$$.  So Kevin said, "I have a special spot I put stuff like this."  He walks into his closet and puts it on a shelf.

Basically his special spot is a shelf in his closet where he shoves crap.  And it is not more than three feet from where this card has been sitting, driving me crazy, for weeks.  Anyways, thought I would check out what else he finds "special".

 1. A unopened children's Christmas CD.  Uh okay.  Goodwill pile.

2. A current credit card and three checkbooks for my bank account.  What are you doing with this Kevin?  Are you stealing from me?  Secret spending habit?

3. A bumper sticker to a restaurant we like to visit in Hilton Head.  Didn't really take you for a bumper sticker kinda guy, but alrighty then.  When this actually makes its way to your bumper, I am sure the proprietors of the Sea Shack will appreciate all the advertising you are doing for them.  From 1000 miles away.

3. A stack of old coupons, membership cards and gift cards.  All expired 2009 or earlier.  The Blockbuster card intrigued me, I had to check it out.  It is filthy.  It is laminated.  It must be really old.  Well there is no expiration date on it but it is your MOM's card.  So, please return this to your mom and give her money for any outstanding late fees.

5. The empty box for a cold weather face mask.  We were sent this face mask a few years ago by one of Kevin's college friends who thought the guy on the box looks exactly like Kevin.  And I totally agree.  Spot on.  Total look alike.  But why keep it Kevin?  The only reason I can come up with is that you have added "male model" to your resume, and you need to keep this as proof?

To be fair, this is a picture of my dining room.  I still haven't put my house back together after Christmas.

Yeah yea, pretty bad.  But whatever, at least I don't hoard garbage in my closet.

Date night

Let me start by being preemptive and answering some of your questions....
No, you are not losing your eyesight.  Its a totally blurry picture, but its the only one we got. So there it is.
No, I am not pregnant.  I just had a lot to eat.
No, I am not taller than Kevin.  I just have really high shoes on.
Yes, that is a big bag of candy in my hand.
Yes, that is an ice cream cone in Kevin's hand.

Last weekend, Kevin and I went on a date night. We went out to Pewaukee lake, grabbed a bite to eat and then walked along the water front. It was fun to try somewhere new and it had a vacation vibe going. We got ice cream. Bought a bunch of candy at the candy store. It was fun.

Kevin always claims that I never put him on the blog, I tell him it is because he just isn't as exciting as our kids or my random thoughts.  Since he continues to complain, I put together an exciting little photo collage.  Here is Kevin putting on his sandals on the beach.  Just like a pro.

goose poop and other romantic stuff on valentine's day

Happy Valentine's Day!  And more importantly,

Happy Birthday Amy!

So what is with the goose poop?  Not typical Valentine's Day imagery I know.

Well it is romantic, I promise, at least for me.  You see in August 2003, Kevin asked me to marry him.  The sweet man took me to Lincoln Park in Chicago and he had scoped out the perfect location.  Somewhat secluded, next to the pond, right by a bridge...it really was beautiful.  As we he kept suggesting that we sit down here and there.  I kept refusing.  Not meaning to be difficult (this time).

The problem was there was goose poop EVERYWHERE. We were all dressed up for a nice dinner and I didn't want to ruin my outfit by sitting in anything stinky. We did finally find a spot and Kevin pooped, I mean, popped the question. So every time I see the stuff it makes me think of my engagement. So that, my friends, is why goose poop is romantic. At least to me.

This picture was taken right after we got engaged...awe.

In fact, now that I am looking at this I am thinking this may not even be goose poop, but a more exotic variety of peacock poop.  Anyone out there know?  Betty - this is totally your department :)

By the way, the experience of taking this photo (at the zoo), enhancing it in Picasa, and uploading it to the internet has made me realize that perhaps I put too much poop on this blog.  Agree?  A reflection of life with 2 little kids?  Or maybe it is just proof that I have a (odd) sense of humor?

Washington, DC

For Matt and Kristy's wedding, we flew into DC and spent one day there.  We had lunch with Amy and walked around Georgetown for a little bit.  We came across a street we thought Gracie would love.

After that, we headed over to the Smithsonian museums.  We stopped to take a picture at the White House.

And Kevin insisted that I get his picture in front of the back of the Treasury building.  He loves finance.

Here I am pretending to be the boss.  Please appreciate the fact that I took a respectful picture.  The other people there did not.

Giant Hippo.

We had a wonderful dinner at a great restaurant with my parents and my Uncle Greg who works for the Secretary of Education.  It was so interesting to hear his stories about working for the federal government.

Friday AM, we got up early and walked to some monuments.  The reflecting pool in front of the Washington monument is all torn up, so that was a little disappointing.  Kevin and I agree that we cannot wait to take the kids to DC when they are older,  there is so much for them to see.

After a few hours we headed out to the airport, picked up our rental car, Mark and Maura and made the scenic drive to Altoona, PA.

A quote a day

Last week I wrote down something funny Gracie said every day.  Read and enjoy.

Monday
"Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis....I can speak Spanish because I went to Mexico!"

Tuesday
"Mommy, this is a horrible day." Referring to the freezing rain.

Wednesday
"Mommy, I am going to dream about sparkly bunny ears!" at bedtime.

Thursday
"Grace, you need to say something funny so I can put it on my blog."
"Mommy, the ladybug is a Missus.  You can put that on your bullfrog."

Friday
"Daddy, does water turn into pee?"
"Yes it does."
"Does a banana turn into pee?"
"Well, pee and poop."  (Yes, we always have such refined conversations with our children.)
"No Daddy, it turns into toots and turds."  (Yes, thats my girl!)

And finally, I will include one from Kevin.

Sunday
Kevin - "Wow, look at all those wildflowers."
Me - "Kevin. Those are daffodils."
