A Sampling of Artwork

So Grace comes home with a pile like this very very frequently.  Some stuff is super cute.

Some is, well, not.

Andrew and Mae also come home with art.  Mae more than Drew.  Lets do a little pop quiz here.  Which of these do you think is Mae's and which is Drew's?

Can't tell?  Well me either.  Appears they are at the same level artisically.

Quote of the week

"Andrew why are the liners for your boots in the middle of the floor?"
"Because my boots were just OUT OF CONTROL today."

A close second was from Grace.

"Mae, you are the cutest little baby in the world!"
"Mom!  Mae is NOT the cutest baby in the world!
"Huh?  Who could possibly be cuter?"
"Baby Jesus is the cutest baby ever."  Obviously.

Life with a Superhero

Andrew watching for bad guys as I do some gardening.  He is holding onto his superman cape and a sucker, ready to fight evil.

Andrew is in his "superhero" phase of early childhood development.  He loves all the superheros, but especially Batman and Superman.  I can tell when he gets in his superhero mode, because he gets this crazy look on his face and his arm SHOOTS our in front of him.  Boys are weird.

We have conversations that go like this:
"Mom!  Hurry!  Get them!" Said Andrew as he pointed to a few moms with strollers a block ahead of us on a walk.
"What?  Why?" I asked.
"Do.  You.  Have.  Any.  Rope?" in a hushed, very serious voice.
"What?  No!  Why do you need rope?"
"So we can catch those bad guys and tie them up!"

He also loves to wrestle and have pretend battles with other willing boys.  Here he is during Grace's soccer game.  Our eight year old friend was a very, very good sport.  When Andrew would hit him, he would FLY through the air and throw himself on the ground.  As if Andrew were sooo strong.  Andrew was in heaven.

He also is now convinced that danger is lurking around every corner.  A knock at the door is surely a "bad guy" there to get us.  He always reminds me, "Mommy, I will protect you girls while dad is away."  Then he gets a determined look on his face, dark eyes, and throws out his arm - ready for  anything!

Great to have a bodyguard around, but my favorite thing about life with a superhero is the cute undies.  Definitely the undies.

She's a sandeater

To the tune of Hall & Oates classic "Maneater".

She knows its wrong, but she just cannot help herself.  Anyways, this is a Mae update.

Little Miss Mae is growing up so fast. I can't stand it!

She is super close to walking and super proud of herself.

She is totally a part of the group.  She loves to wrestle with Grace and Andrew.  She rides around with them in the driveway.  If they are coloring, she needs to color.  If they are doing puzzles, she needs to do a puzzle too.  They are great sports and, as always, very sweet and patient with her.

She loves her headbands.  She steals them from Grace's room and crawls to the full length mirror, and tries to put them on.  If she is on the first floor she checks her reflection in our fireplace cover.

She is a great eater. Her favorite foods are strawberries and cheese.
She has been sleeping through the night and taking decent naps (knock on wood).

She is developing her spunky little personality.
Offer her food she doesn't want and she will knock it out of your hand.
Ask her for a kiss, if she is in a good mood she will lean in and give you one.  If she is in a sassy mood, you get a smirk as she looks away and pretends she didn't hear you.

She is learning a few words and getting pretty good at communicating.  She says a lot of yeahs and grunts.  But she also says my favorite. "Momma!"

And so it begins...

We have signed on with a contractor, put down a deposit on cabinets, an I have begun shopping...the decisions and options are overwhelming.

Here are my first tile samples. Debating between Carrara marble and plain white ceramic subways.

Sweet Andrew

He walked up to me today and said, "I love you so much Mommy. I love you everyday. I love you everyday of May. May is like Mae. Today is in May. Like baby Mae...." As he walked away, he continued to mutter to himself about Mae and May like a confused old little man.

A hug and a kiss and a rub

Every night for months now, both Grace and Andrew have to say goodnight to Mae and give her "a hug and a kiss and a rub." The rub is a soft rub on her head. For good luck, I guess. Sometimes Andrew says he needs to "soft her head". Too cute.

Enjoying the great weather!

We have finally had some spring days here and we have been hard at work cleaning up the yard and playing in the sun!
